The Barre method

The Barre Method is a blended workout fusing elements from the movement of ballet, the core focus of pilates, the stretching of yoga, and the strengthening of functional exercise. The beauty of this is that there will always be movement you recognise.

Each class is designed for mixed abilities and we welcome everyone, with modifications given throughout each class. All formats on the Menu are designed to music and are super energising for the mind and body.

Using the barre, props including mats, weights, resistance bands and pilates balls we take you through a full body, low impact workout – no jumping or high impact moves unless you want to!
The small, targeted isometric movements fatigue the muscles, helping to strengthen and tone your body, resulting in the ‘burn’ and ‘shake’ barre has become synonymous for.

A few classes at The Barre will leave you standing taller, more mobile, flexible. Seeing an improvement in muscle tone throughout your whole body and a sense of wellbeing.

CLASS MENU

TONE & SCULPT

The original serving of all Barre Classes , a mixed ability workout to tone and strengthen from head to toe. This workout utilises the isometric burn, delving deep into those intrinsic muscles and stabilisers. Just a few sessions you will see a noticeably improved posture, balance, and a lifted seat. ‘The Classic’ flows through high repetitions and low resistance, to improve muscular strength and overall tone. A flowing sequence of cleverly developed exercises, that leave you feeling stronger and leaner.

THE BARRE CLASSIC

All the beauty of the barre classic, shaken and stirred. We have spiced up the format to keep your mind and body guessing. Challenging combinations, that still give you the great barre burn and shake!

THE BARRE CLASSIC Shaken & Stirred

A class to elevate, sculpt and strengthen your barre practice. The creative use of different therabands throughout challenges the body to activate and delve deeper into strengthening and defining your muscles. A total body class that will leave you wondering what muscles haven’t you toned!

BARRE DEFINE

STRENGTH & MOBILITY

A melting pot of functional fitness techniques, fused with that added barre burn and lengthening throughout. Props will be varied to keep your body guessing, and strengthening will be more intense. You might feel this class a few days later!

BARRE FUSION

Build solid foundations with a Pilates fusion flowing class, that utilises small props to challenge your strength, balance and alignment. A fantastic stepping stone and suitable for beginners, where technique is paramount! Reformer without the reformer.

PILATES FUSION

RESTORE & ALIGN

A beautiful balance of yoga inspired flow to lengthen the muscles, weaved with a sculpting delve into some Barre based strength and conditioning. A class that focuses on the intelligent use of different planes of motion, deeper lengthening, stabilisation, balance and relaxation. Let go of the days stress, and find yourself in flow.

BARRE FLOW

Our barre and baby classes are specifically designed post-natal workouts to get you back into shape after giving birth- get ready to feel strong and regain a bit of you again! The classic class is a dynamic, low impact, whole body barre workout with a focus on strengthening your core safely with the close guidance of our instructors. A mat for you and a mat for baby means you can snuggle, feed and barre together. Class is 40 mins to ensure you get a great workout whilst keeping baby content.

CHANGES TO BODY COMPOSITION

If it’s toning, fat loss, or muscle growth you’re after, then mix your formats, a spicy combination of Barre Classic, Shaken and Stirred, and Barre Fusion, will keep your body guessing and working that little bit harder.

Sample your workouts over the week and aim for 3-5 classes per week.

ENHANCE YOUR MOOD

Boost your endorphins with a happy mix of Barre Classic and Barre Flow. The balance of low impact, high-intensity exercise and a more gentle flow through the body, combined with your post class catch up will leave you with a natural high/smile on your face and a sense of well-being.

Try to balance 3-4 classes throughout the week

WORK WITH YOUR HORMONES

Throughout the month and over the years, our hormones fluctuate, and at The Barre, our selection of classes can support you.

Some days, just moving your body with a lower impact or a shortened class is enough; try The Classic. On those ‘top of the world’ days, give Barre Fusion a go and watch your body and mind thank you for it.

Consistency is key, so aim for variety and 2-4 classes per week.

NEW TO EXERCISE

If you are new to exercise, then The Barre has got you. Ease in with The Barre Classic. Each class has modifications suitable for all fitness levels, leaving you feeling stronger and leaner after just a few visits.

Dip your toes in and then build your way up to 3 classes a week.

Your First Class

  • Light, comfortable activewear with layers to peel away as you heat up and gripper socks to prevent slipping. Grip socks are required and can be purchased in the studio.

  • A calm space to change, hang your coat, store your belongings and remove shoes before entering the studios. Please aim to use the toilet before class.

  • All mats, props and towels are provided, just bring water if you wish and enjoy your class.

  • Please remember to leave your mobile phones behind and arrive on time for class; we have a 10-minute late policy to ensure everyone enjoys a distraction-free experience.

  • Our teachers will always ask at the start of class for any injuries or pre/post natal indications. If you can let us know beforehand we can modify accordingly and even book you a 1:1 session to understand your required modifications.
